FUNDAMENTALISM / RELIGION / POLITICS – SPELL DESASTER
Dear Best Buddies, Family and my Fellow BLOGers,
When I submitted the article written by a Muslim columnist about the difference in accomplishment between the Muslims and the Christians and Jews, I got a comment in our BLOB from a lady that happens to be a very good buddy of mine. She is English, lives up by Scotland if I remember correctly.
You can read her comments in the BLOG. At the time her comments did not make me overly happy so I jumped on her in an e-mail. Where I should have answered was in the Chipping BLOG, dumb, at any rate that letter of hers just would not go away, kept thinking about it as she was absolutely correct in some of her points, one in particular, that the main cause of the Muslims problem is fundamentalism in religion – fundamentalism that is taken to the extreme.
Education “is” only one of the reasons that Christians and Jews exceed, however a major one. There is no study that I know of to back up any theory that one race has superior intellect, although sometimes I wonder. I will not argue that point, still in my almost 80 years on this earth, and more years than I can count in business, I dealt with many different cultures, I was in touch with many cultures due to the business I was in – the importing of foodstuffs and alcoholic beverages from world markets. Many of my friends from business became much more, than business acquaintances, they became very close friends, often helping me through rough times.
Many Jews are in business and I came to know them and their families not only as business acquaintances but as close friends. Every one of my Jewish friends, often at extreme distress to themselves financially – made damn sure their kids had the best education they could give them. The Jews as a race of people are in most cases extremely intelligent to begin with. Add that to the Jewish families educating their children to the height of their abilities is one reason they, as a race, have contributed so greatly to medicine, literature, and every phase of improving life on this planet. I am NOT Jewish, but if I returned to this earth in another life as a Jew I would be very proud to be one. Little known about most Jew besides their extremely intelligent, is that most have an excellent sense of humor, so much fun to talk with, spend time with. My Dad’s buddy, Victor Borge was only one example of that, another close friend of mine still alive is the Fuzz, a super buddy I would not give up for anything.
My English /Scottish girl friend and I did agree that education was a major factor in the Muslins lack of contributions to our human race and their lack of improvement in any major faze of life on this earth. That they have no sense of humor that is a fact of life. I really got pissed off the other day when I read an article in our local paper. It seems that some Danish politician is up for being the head honcho of the group of nations making up the “European Union.” Turkey and other Muslims nations and people are opposing his turn as leader because a Danish cartoonist about a year ago drew a comic picture of Mohammad for a Danish newspaper. The Danish politician stated that he would not condemn that artist as he believed in free speech. To withhold office, to oppose a person because he believes in free speech to me is all the difference. The difference between an educated free thinking person and some religious nutcase – I pray and hope that they will not succeed this office from him – however the very fact that it is an issue at all denotes the difference between a free society and a controlled society run by dictators or worse. A dictator does not have to be a political one, it seems the very worse are the priests or religious leaders; they are by far the worst, hiding behind their religion for power and controlling folks by their fear of God or the hereafter.
Now let’s get to the main issue that both my lady friend and I agree with whole heartedly, the root of evil in the world today. It is religious fundamentalism; it seems that so many of the Muslims are really nut cases related to religious fundamentalism. They even strap bombs on themselves to kill other folks, women and children that are fellow Muslims.
It seems there are a huge number of different sects of Muslims; I guess you could equate that with Christians where we have a ton of Christians but split between, Baptists, Lutherans, Catholics and so many many more. All believe in God, all are Christians but worship in a slightly different way. The difference is that no Catholic, or Lutheran, nor Jew or any other Christian that I know of that would strap bombs to his or her body and willing kill dozens of children, ladies and men of another Christian group. It is unthinkable. Yet you have Muslims doing this all the time. I may understand them if they did this only to Jews, Christians or folks of other faiths but to do this to their own people shows religious fundamentalism at it’s worst.
I am going to take this all one step further, I am afraid that it is a step that many of you may disagree with, but I believe it one hundred percent. I truly believe that the reason, the deep down basic reason we as a nation are in the deep mess we are in is the religious fundamentalist in our nation for a period of time controlling politics and electing George W. Bush as our leader. He in turn put in folks with the same fundamentalist ideas. These fundamentalist folks were put in charge of our government and its agencies, not because of their expertise in an area of government but because they were buddies with the same ideals as Mr. Bush and his cohort vice president Mr. Chaney.
Two terms, eight years of these religious fundamentalists running our government came near to destroying our government. If anyone wanted a lesson as to why our nation’s forefathers demanded the separation of church and state, the last eight years is a lesson why they had this foresight. It was ignored by the electorate, in my opinion a stupid basically religious fundamentalist group of people – and we will pay the price for that gross stupidity for many many years to come.
Our nation was built on free speech, protection of the rights of all citizens, freedom to chose and worship as you wish. To impose beliefs, narrow minded beliefs on others by fear, or law, or force of arms is wrong – the Bush administration has allowed our nations schools to regress greatly. We are not the guiding light of education in the world, and if we are not careful we will continue to rank lower and lower with formerly poor nations such as China, India and others exceeding us. Education is the key to a prosperous nation, if we ever let religious fundamentalists, or advocates of such fundamentalism, such as Mr. Bush, in power again we have to be as stupid as it gets.
Thank God we now have an intelligent president, an advocate of open government, an advocate of higher educations, he himself – being a prime example of that. However even the most intelligent man in the world is going to have a tough time straightening out the mess made by our home grown religious fundamentalist Mr. Bush.

o.k., here goes:
Amen to the separation of church and state. But being a numbers’ guy, here’s something else to consider: There’s one billion Moslems in the world to 20 million Jews. That means you’re 50 times more likely to get a crazy Moslem than a crazy Jew. And there are crazy fundamentalist Jews. One of them assassinated Yitzhak Rabin, the greatest leader of modern Israel. They also continue to sabotage the peace process in the Middle East. But why aren’t fundamentalist Jews suicide bombers? Because there’s too much to live for. Life is good for them. Their biggest complaint? “Oye vey, my son got into Harvard and not Columbia.” Or “Oye vey, my daughter is marrying a doctor and not a lawyer.” But if your life is hopeless at least you get 72 virgins if you blow yourself up and take some infidels with you. This has nothing to do with religion (not that you were implying this). The Old Testament, New Testament and the Koran have the same basic philosophy. There’s the flood myth, the creation myth and their own versions of the golden rule. The big difference is that there are more crazy rulers of Moslem countries. Christians gave up theocracy, what, 400 years ago when they realized it wasn’t working out. And Jews were forced to give it up long before that. Moslems stuck with the old ways.
