THIS AND THAT – AND ALL THAT JAZZ
So – let’s get away from Everybody’s Danish, High School in the 1940’s, and back to the present.
I have heard this a million times – how time passes so quickly for the elderly. Of course I never figured I would be in that group. Where in the hell did all those years go? Being a kid, the army, marriage, and what a marriage, chasing my bride with lustful intent, wow, those were the fun times, the kids arriving, raising them, work, businesses, retirement it all seemed to go so fast. I guess my much loved brother in law; Jack taking off on us really was like a punch in the gut, telling me we are all going to have to follow someday. It is still hard for me to accept his going, he was always the tiger, the winner, the bigger than life guy and the guy you could count on like no one else – gone – that was the hardest.
Time is passing so quickly, I truly would like to stick around another ten or so years just to see what goes on. I wrote a fist full of my Republican buddies the other day to stop sending me all the garbage they love to send – they love to send anything damaging related to the Democrats, ha what short memories they have about the damage their party did to our nation, its people, its finances, but I do not want to start another war with them.
I went in for another visit with yet another doctor, I find I have a huge list of them now, used to be you had one to fix all, now days you have one for each of whatever ails you. Then throw in a few extra just for special tests, technicians and so forth. Most have been successful in whatever they do as far as my health, fixing whatever ailed me, the only one that has not been successful is the ‘electronics heart doc’ – did you know there was such a thing? Sounds like an electrician that works with wires etc.
Dr. Lowy, my electronics doc is always giving me this stuff about staying away from stress, stressful situations. They even taught me how to take my heart beat by holding a finger under my chin, never realized that you have a major artery there. Anyway, I have a skipping or irregular heartbeat, seems I had it most of my life so I was not too concerned except where it seems to be more so than ever. Seems to go beat, beat, beat, beat, and then will sometimes stop for awhile. They tried to fix it, get it into a regular beat by putting me out and hitting my chest with some heavy electric shocks, I had burn marks on my chest for months after to prove they tried. Dr. Lowy said it just did not work, he said my heart was just like a little kid getting hit, the more he banged it, the madder and the more erratic it got, he could only bang it five times, more could be damaging he said.
Normally it does not bother me so I asked him why all the concern, he said, someday it may go beat, beat, beat then stop for awhile but not start up again , I would then be where ever Jack is and so very many of my old friends have gone. So I gotta stay away from stress or try to, so the darn thing does not start doing the bogey beat.
Politics unfortunately is stressful to me, I particularly hate it when some friends are constantly against something, like this health plan I think our nation needs – they are always against this or that – but never, never ever have a solution, never come up with a plan to correct something. I would not mind hearing from buddies of the so called right if they were constructive, had some plan to bring health care to the millions, almost 50 million of our people that do not have it. But no, they raise hell and damnation about the money, wow, the biggest spender our nation had, the guys that depleted our nation’s reserves was Bush and his lot, all the money Obama is spending is attempting to better our nation, get folks back to work, get our people and kids healthy. Seems I would rather go into debt to fix something, make folks healthier than to bomb and kill and make my oil buddies richer as other administrations have done.
If just once, just once, my right wing buddies would send in a plan that would fix our nations problems or even a few of them, but no, it is bitch, bitch, bitch, nothing constructive just bitch, bitch and more bitching – guess it will never happen, all it is and will be is right wing nuts yelling at town meetings, disruptive of folks trying to be constructive, a shame our nation has come to this.
I am damn sure a few of the plans the Demo’s try to help our nations don’t work or may not work as planned – BUT – damn it – they are at least doing something, trying to do something – not just doing nothing and bitching. Republicans love to bitch but are exceedingly short on plans to improve the welfare of our people.
And our congress, both Republicans AND Democrats, working deals, making exchanges for power, for special interests, someday I would love to know what happened to – “For the good of our nation, our people” instead of a congress person only looking out for themselves and their special interests. To bad we can’t have a vote to eliminate all lawyers from congress and get some common folks in there to protect the interests of all our people. Taking away all the perks would be number one, make em have the same health plan, the same Social Security plan the rest of us have instead of the hundreds of thousands they get on retirement. Folks in congress have voted themselves a ton of perks – not nice – un-American – and these bastards are our leaders? Ha!
Gotta get away from politics, it is like a sickness – it can kill you.
For kicks a few months ago I put my book related to how to make money with a stock or a number of stocks called ‘Making money is simple – just boring!’ up for auction on eBay as an e-Book for .99 cents. Have been selling at least four a week and often many more, I have a few left of the printed version – the 2nd edition, sold for years by Investment systems Inc. for $18.95. I just do not want the hassle and work of bringing it up to date for a 3rd Edition. Basically the system is the same just should update the examples. Of course, all that are too lazy to do the math required to make money with the system, can get the super software from Investment systems that will do it all for you, like making money sleeping, tells you what to do to make money with a mathematically fall safe method. Anyway it is fun just getting the information out about a method of making money with stocks, giving it to folks, love doing it. I have been giving it free to all joining my BLOG just as a gift.
That got me to thinking, so for kicks I put my fiction book ‘Soda Pop Soldiers’ up for sale for .50 cents as an e-Book, of course I lose a few cents at that price, with listing and selling fees, but eBay says you have to start bidding somewhere. Sold some at a one cent bid but there I would be out about .50 cents a book. Just wanted to see if someone was nuts enough to buy an unpublished fiction author, amazing so far I have sold 11 of them.
Of course if I sell more it will be a successful effort – but my pocket book will be a bit short. I tried to put up the version of Soda Pop Soldiers that the book agent told me to do, his words “needs a triangle, two girls a guy, two guys a girl and add sex – a lot of sex, sex sells!” So I wrote the version called ‘Innocent Indiscretions.’ I think it is the best book, fiction book I ever wrote, O. K. so I am not a great writer, still it is my best. However, after putting it in my eBay store I soon got an automated eBay note that it was transferred to some sales area for adults only. I looked all over eBay and have no idea where they buried it, wherever it is, it is dead as in died – because I never had a customer as yet – if I can’t find it how can a reader?
Funny, the one thing I would have given anything to do as a profession – is not to be. I would love to write books, spend the rest of my life writing fun books, fiction books, a whole series taking buddies with me in a make believe life, getting us in situations, mostly humorous situations, ah well, you can’t have everything in life. I guess if everything you did was obtainable, if you could do everything you wanted, if you could fill every dream, then life would not be so much fun, you would not be striving for anything.
God, willing if I live long enough we will finish with Everybody’s Danish or at least bring it up to date, and then I will start sending you chapters of Soda Pop Soldiers. I would dearly love to send you chapters of Innocent Indiscretions but I am not sure just how all of you would take it, the men would love it, I am not sure about the ladies even if the buddy of mine, a lady by the way, that helped me polish it up – loved it and said it was a truly wonderful love story.
I am not sure if our Poly girls still with us are yet up to speed related to the current games played between the sexes, it sure as heck took me many months to be able to write those fun and games to relax from the confines of writing within the confines binding you for tens of years and writing about real love. Maybe I will look it over and see if some of the fire can be cooled down a bit. Yet another project – so little time.
Wow, just wanted to talk to you, my old friends and four pages are gone. It is also 10 PM and time to hook up my ‘black box’ put on my oxygen mask and go sleepy bye. Sleep apnea – the black box pumping oxygen into your old Uncle at night does seem to make me sleep better. Of course, my bride of almost 60 years, Sally, needs a nightly sleeping pill as she can’t hack the noise. If we had a gun in the house I am sure she would shoot it some nights. Maybe we should entitle this one “The thrills and excitement of old age.” What will they think up next?
When Sally opens the door to our bedroom each morning and my black part Siamese cat ‘Nina’ jumps up on the bed, I get dirty looks, after using the sleep apnea box and the oxygen mask for six months it is still not her favorite. She will peek at my face with the mask on, “Hey Dad – that you under there? – get your butt up and give me a little loving.” Damn cat gets plenty of that!
