At the age of 78 your old Uncle Fred does not get scared easily – this scares the crap out of your old Uncle – Oh, not for me – but for our children and their children.

Just thought I’d throw this on:
I grew up in Malaysia, where the Muslim population is over 60%. I was born in the United States and am a Christian. During my years there I was friends with many Muslims, and in 8 years, there was never anything but peace. I was certainly not subject to “unfettered persecution of non-believers and other
religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels.” These are patterns that can’t be ignored, but one must not be so quick to stereotype. Patterns can be found anywhere. Often it is as much the history of the land that brings its people to a violent present.

Dear Alexa, Interesting, I would have to believe that you are right. The history of the land brings its violents to the present day.

I remember during my business life I traveled in Europe quite a bit, I was shocked that many would still be re living wars that happened hundreds if not thousands of years ago. Still hating present day Countries or people for happenings that were so buried in the past you can’t believe it.

The middle east with all the different tribes, and the various sects of Muslims each competing against each other, plus the so called hatred of those not Muslim with no education system to teach them other wise, no view of the entire world except a small village or a getto, etc. is bound to breed hatred if for no other reason a reason to live.

Of course you would know better than I as I never lived in that area of the world.

Today I heard John McCain stating his views about why we should NOT have talks to Iran, amazing. I can never think back on my business career where a dispute with a customer or a supplier or business associate was ever cured by NOT talking. The only way the worlds problems are ever to be solved and that there can ever be peace is if folks sit down and talk to each other, this applies to nations all over the world. To use the Bush/McCain attitude of NOT being willing to talk to another nation because their views are different than ours boarders on gross stupitiy.

One attraction to me with Obama is that he has promised to talk to all nations we are in conflict with, I am all for that, in fact it is the only way we will have a chance for peace, it will save thousands of our soldiers lives. More power to him.

I have to agree with you that folks have to be shown a different life than the violence of the past in whatever land they live in, then maybe some understanding that all of us, Christians, Jews, Muslims, or any other religion is not evil, just a bit different.

If any of you out there have lived among Muslims as Alexa has, I would like to hear your experiences, hope you will give them.

    Uncle Fred
